The Issues:

  1. Jobs: Decent jobs for our hard working families
  2. Jobs: Higher paying jobs by attracting new industries
  3. JOBS: Retrain good workers for new job opportunities in renewable energy

Sioux City and western Iowa have unique issues: we’re on the border with two states that are aggressively going after our jobs. Sioux City MUST have the economic development tools we need to get those jobs for our people. We also have a great opportunity to turn Northwest Iowa into the leader in wind energy and cellulosic ethanol. To transport our wind energy across the nation, we need to invest in our people and invest in updating the electrical infrastructure to be more efficient and reliable.

Taxes: Year after year Federal and State governments put more and more on every taxpayer. Our economy’s recent decline is the perfect time to take a hard look at every tax and every “incentive” that Iowa uses.

Rick MullinRoads: Why is it that every county lane across the state is paved yet we can’t get Highway 20 four-laned to Sioux City. We lag behind the rest of the state, and that’s got to change.

Education: Sioux City students need the same first-class education as the students in West Des Moines and Sergeant Bluff, but we don’t have the same tax base as those communities. It’s time to insure that EVERY student in Iowa has the same opportunities, no matter their local tax base.

Jobs, taxes, roads, and education are foremost on Rick’s list of concerns. He knows first-hand the importance of a strong education for young people in today’s challenging economic environment, and will work tirelessly to ensure that Iowa maintains its’ excellent reputation for quality education.

He will take the time to listen to his constituents, do the needed research, and make the tough decisions needed to resolve these issues. Rick’s life experiences and business leadership skills will make him a valuable asset to his district and for Sioux City.
